What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a trance like state where you are completely focused and able to bring about positive change through the subconscious mind. You, the client are always fully in control.
We all experience hypnosis in our day to day lives without realising it. When we are engrossed in a book, watching television or driving we can enter a trance like state. We become hyper focused on what we are doing that and are unaware of what is going on around us. For example, not hearing someone talking to us when we are reading or not remembering which particular route we took on a car journey.
Hypnosis allows access to the subconscious mind by way of bypassing the conscious mind. The hypnotherapist helps you to get in touch with your own subconscious and to ‘quieten’ the conscious mind. The power to make changes is already inside you, the hypnotherapist is just a guide.
When in a state of hypnosis, you always remains in control. You cannot be made to say or do anything you would not feel comfortable doing in your normal waking state. The hypnotherapist cannot force you to relax or to visualise anything they say. You have to be a willing partner in the process. A hypnotherapist only facilitates the therapy allowing you to access your subconscious mind and to make positive changes yourself.
The hypnotherapist helps to guide you into a relaxed state and enables you to do the work for yourself by making positive suggestions. Even in this state the conscious mind is aware of what is happening, therefore you remain fully at the helm and in control. If you choose to you can come out of hypnosis at any time.
The fact that all hypnosis is self hypnosis is recognised by various associations, this includes The National Guild of Hypnotists.
A client can also be taught to practice self hypnosis at home. As you see the positive results from this, it becomes clear that it is yourself that does all the work. You, the client empower change. You realise you are always fully in control and the catalyst for your own positive change. All improvement comes from within you. It is the subconscious that has the power.
Hypnosis is an extremely powerful tool. It can be used for many different issues, including habit breaking and addictions, confidence building, pain relief, anxiety and depression, exam stress, phobias, weight loss and much more.
